About Y Filltir Sgwâr

Y Filltir Sgwâr is Welsh for your square mile. This is the story of a holistic service helping people to survive the cancer experience on psychological, practical and emotional levels
The service

  • Helps the families and the carers of the people with cancer.
  • It offers help and support form diagnosis onwards. It is there for people at all stages of illness and recovery.
  • So people don’t have to travel long distances when they don’t feel well, the treatments come to the people with cancer in their homes or in the three satelight centres around the county.
  • The service helps people survive, live with cancer, and come to terms with the long-term affects of the treatments.
  • For those who feel happier to speak in Welsh about their illness the service offers bilingual therapists. Sometimes people feel happier talking about such important things as their illness and future, in their mother tongue.
  • The service is diverse and adaptable in its approach, because we believe that each person needs a different approach so the help and support fulfils their unique need.
  • More and more people will survive cancer in the years to come this service offers support in adapting to the change in lifestyle.
  • Training and, education and support for Health Care professionals have been central to our work. Looking after the professionals in the long run means better care for people with cancer and their families.
